The Communications Architectures and Research Section (332) has a heritage of significant achievements in space communications, which include error correcting codes, modulation, digital signal processing, ground-based planetary radar, ultra-stable frequency and timing systems, radio science, instrumentations, and deep space system engineering. In addition, more recent developments include data compression, optical communications, and Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). Most of its technologies and expertise are not unique to deep space communications, but also applicable to other communications applications such as satellite communications and mobile communications.
The section aims to produce first of a kind, one of a kind systems. Its far reaching impacts range from now to eternity, and from terrestrial to satellite to deep space and where no one has gone before Its activities range from concept, theory, analysis, design, simulation, prototype demo, experiment, to deep space mission operations (we fly 'em!). Its manner of operation is to please sponsors and customers by completing tasks on time, within budget, and meeting performance requirements.
Section 332 consists of ten groups listed here with the supervisors' names.
